How to install Sintel BI

For administrators

This page is for Microsoft 365 or SharePoint administrators, and for site owners who request the app for their site. You don't need it to build dashboards. Who does what?

Sintel BI is an add-in for Microsoft 365, available from Microsoft AppSource. Before anyone can use it, it has to be added to your Microsoft 365 tenant.

There are two ways to install it:

  • Option 1: a SharePoint administrator installs Sintel BI for the whole organisation.
  • Option 2: a site owner requests the app for their site, and an administrator approves the request.

Once the app is in your tenant, configure it on a site.

No AppSource?

If your organisation has disabled AppSource, see Install without AppSource.

Option 1: a SharePoint administrator installs it

A SharePoint administrator can install Sintel BI centrally, so it's available to every site in the organisation.

Permissions

You need access to the SharePoint admin centre and permission to add apps to your Microsoft 365 tenant. If you're not an administrator, contact the person or team that manages your tenant, often your IT department or an external provider. Share this page with them.

  1. Open the SharePoint admin centre: https://YourTenantName-admin.sharepoint.com/_layouts/15/online/AdminHome.aspx#/home
  2. Select More features.
  3. Under Apps, select Open.
  4. Choose App Catalog.
  5. In the left menu, select SharePoint Store.
  6. Search for Sintel, then select Sintel BI.
  7. Select Add to app catalog.
  8. When you're asked how to deploy it, choose Enable this app and add it to all sites. This doesn't add the app to every site. It only makes it available to be added to any site.

Sintel BI is now in your tenant app catalog and can be added to any site.

Option 2: a site owner requests it

If you're a site owner and can't install tenant-wide apps, request Sintel BI for your site. An administrator then approves the request.

Step 1: submit an app request

  1. Open your SharePoint site.
  2. Select New > App, or Settings > Add an app.
  3. Choose From SharePoint Store.
  4. Search for Sintel, select Sintel BI, then select Request.
  5. Enter a reason for the request and select Send request.

You'll see a confirmation that the request was submitted.

Step 2: an administrator approves it

  1. The SharePoint administrator opens the SharePoint admin centre: https://YourTenantName-admin.sharepoint.com/_layouts/15/online/AdminHome.aspx#/home
  2. Select More features, then Open under Apps.
  3. Open the App Catalog.
  4. Select App requests in the left menu, or Manage requests of apps.
  5. If prompted, select Try the new App requests page (optional).
  6. Find the Sintel BI request, add a comment if you like, and select Approve and add this app.
  7. Confirm the data access to complete the installation. This is SharePoint's standard prompt: Sintel BI doesn't request any Microsoft Graph or other API permissions, see Security and data.

Sintel BI is now in your tenant app catalog and can be added to any site.

Upgrade a version older than March 2022

If you're using a version of Sintel BI released before 22 March 2022, remove it first, then add the new version. Your existing configuration on your sites is kept.

Step 1: remove the old version

  1. Open the SharePoint admin centre: https://YourTenantName-admin.sharepoint.com/_layouts/15/online/AdminHome.aspx#/home
  2. Select More features, then Open under Apps.
  3. Open the App Catalog.
  4. Select Apps for SharePoint in the left menu, or the Distribute apps for SharePoint tile.
  5. Find the current Sintel BI app and delete it.

Site collection app catalogs

If the app was installed in a site collection app catalog rather than the tenant app catalog, remove it from each site collection separately.

Step 2: add the new version

  1. In the App Catalog, go to the SharePoint Store.
  2. Search for Sintel, then select Sintel BI.
  3. Select Add to app catalog.

Site owners can now install the latest version on their sites. A site that still uses the older version shows the site owner a prompt to upgrade, and they only need to select Get it.

For later updates, see How to update.
